Stepping down clumsily from the engine housing I managed to stand on the stop cable handle and break it. The metal end is bent too so the thing needs replacing. (It's currently being operated with two hands and a pair of pliers.) So far I've discovered that Yanmar do two lengths for this cable : 0.5m and 2.0m. Neither of these will do the job. As far as I can tell the cable needs to be about 65cm long. Does anyone know where I can find one?

My cable is almost exactly 1m and it is routed to use up the extra length. Vetus do a 1m cable, but you would need to check the fixings at each end. You could try www.europeanmarine.co.uk - they claim to make cables to length. I've found some of the guys at French Marine (Brightlingsea or Levington) to be helpful with this sort of question, they work with Yanmar engines (and Vetus) - they have a presence in Norfolk at Rackheath (01603 722079) if that's nearer you. Some folk reckon it's OK to coil and secure a longer cable but I hope you find one the right size.

Thanks Gordon. I'm sure a 1m cable would be fine. French Marine were very helpful during my servicing adventure I'll check out the Vetus cable and if that fails try europeanmarine.co.uk.
